The Zoo

We have been so busy this month, I'm behind on blog posts so hopefully I can take some time to catch up. A few weeks ago my friend, Michelle, and I took the kids to the zoo since my zoo membership is about to expire. The kids had a great time! We did skip a few things because it was pretty crowded, there were a ton of school children there on field trips. Towards the end of the day we spent some time at the playground and Brennan was excited to slide. After the playground we ended our visit by riding the train which is always the kids' favorite.

Great-Grandma

I just had to post these pictures, I thought it was really sweet. This is my grandmother who Brennan is named after. Brennan was being really sweet and giving Grandma lots of hugs.

My Little Helper

Brennan has become quite the little helper around the house. Yesterday I was vacuuming the den and I put all her toys up on the couch to get them out of the way. After I finished vacuuming, Brennan started pulling everything off the couch and putting it back in its place. It was so cute and so very smart of her.

Then tonight I went to the grocery store and when I came home she helped me unload all the bags. I thought she would be done after a bag or two but she just kept unloading. She even tried to pick up a gallon of milk but it was too heavy for her so she just dragged the bag over to me. Maybe next week she'll help me mop!

And this picture is just because. Gammi & Poppy came over the other night and Brennan was being so sweet to Poppy.

Easter 2010

We spent this Easter at Grammi & Papa's (my parents) house for the first time ever. It's been about 6 months since we last went to visit. The kids & I headed up on Thursday after picking Ethan up from school. We made it there without even stopping once which is a miracle with two kids! Plus, Brennan only slept 20 minutes the entire ride. I fortunately brought enough snacks & toys to keep her entertained.

On Friday, we didn't do much. My mom had the day off so we got to spend some extra time with her! We went out to lunch with one of her friends and she gave the kids a little Easter present. She gave Brennan a lamb, she just hugged & hugged that lamb! That was her sweet side but the other side showed up too. She actually had to go into time out at the restaurant. She kept putting her feet on the table and after a couple of warnings I had to put her in timeout. I'm sure we were a spectacle but consistency is the key. Friday afternoon my mom & I went through my grandmother's costume jewelry, she had a ton of beaded necklaces. My mom wasn't going to wear them but she thought Brennan would love them. When Brennan woke up from her nap we showed them to her and she wanted to wear them all! This girl loves jewelry!!!!

On Saturday we took the kids to an Easter egg hunt at my parents church. They had a toddler area so Brennan wasn't having to hunt eggs with bigger kids. She was so cute trying to get eggs. She got about 4 eggs and she was happy as a lark. She would open them but could have cared less about what was inside. She was just happy to open & close the eggs. After the hunt we took some pictures of the kids. Brennan wasn't too cooperative but at least we were able to get some good pics. The Easter Bunny showed up after the hunt was over and as soon as Brennan saw her she went running to her. She used to be afraid of anyone in a costume but apparently she's gotten over that, she even got upset when I took her from the Easter Bunny. After the hunt we went back to my parents house to have lunch and for Brennan to take her nap. My mom stayed home with her while my dad & I went to pick up Stephen from the airport.

Sunday morning we woke up and the kids looked for their Easter baskets. Brennan's was hidden under an end table, she walked past it twice before she finally saw it. She loved all her goodies! We then went to church with my parents. Ethan & Brennan stayed in the nursery while we went to the service. She did amazingly well considering she had never been there before. That afternoon after we ate a big Easter lunch my mom, brother & I hid eggs for the kids. The kids had a great time hunting eggs.

18th month checkup

Brennan had her 18 month check-up last week. I'm going to make this short and sweet, I'm really tired and ready to go to bed.

Weight - 25 lbs (61st percentile)
Height - 32 1/4" (69th percentile)

The doctor said everything looked great! Brennan had to have only one shot which was good news. I'll post more of a Brennan update in a few days. :)

Best Friend

Last week Brennan's best friend, Trinity, came over to play while her mommy went to an appointment. Sometimes Trinity likes to show Brennan just how much she loves her by wrestling with her. This usually gets Brennan really mad and she starts crying, she never fights back though. Michelle & Nathan (Trinity's parents) always apologize and feel bad when this happens but we kind of laugh it off and say one day Brennan will get her back. So when Trinity was over I was sitting on the floor playing with them and Trinity came over to me. I scooped her up and gave her a big hug. Then Brennan looked up and saw what I was doing and started crying. She came walking over to us and hit Trinity. I was shocked! She does have a jealous bone when someone else is hugging her Mommy but she has never hit anyone. So now it seems like we'll have to break up fights between these girls and I always thought it would be Ethan & his friends who would physically fight.

15 month checkup

Last week Brennan had her 15 month checkup. She weighed 23 lbs 12 oz (65th percentile) and was 31 1/2" long (80th percentile). She had to have 3 shots and a TB test. She already has a fear of the doctor's office so getting shots is not easy for her. She screamed her head off, I tried singing to her which usually calms her down but it didn't. She was not happy at all, she cried all the way to the car. On the way she noticed the keys in my hand and grabbed them. Suddenly she was happy!! So I put her in her carseat and let her play with the keys to her heart's content. I had a bunch of paperwork from the doctor so I laid it in the front seat while I packed up the stroller. It was a windy (and cold) day and when the wind blew some of my paperwork blew out of the car. I had to run around the parking lot to get it. Once I got it all back in the car I closed the doors. I went to the back to put the stroller in and when that was done I went to get in the car. I pulled on the handle and the doors were locked. I felt my back pocket for my keys and they weren't there. I then remembered that Brennan had them, in the car, with her. OMG! I looked into her window and she was there having the best time playing with my keys. I stood there looking at her for a minute hoping she would press the unlock button but she kept pressing the button just below it. Then she realized that I was looking at her and she got excited and threw the keys down. I started to panic and thank God I had my cell phone on me (my purse was already in the car). I called Stephen to see what I could do. He was in Marietta so there was no way for him to help me but I thought he would give me something brilliant that I would never think of. Of course, what is there to do? By this time I'm crying so I hang up with him and called my sister. She works 10 minutes from our house so I thought she could go get my extra key and bring it to me. Well she wasn't at her regular office that day but she was leaving to go back to her office and could go by the house on her way. I told her ok. I was standing outside in the freezing cold hoping my sister would get there soon but she was 15 minutes from my house and then another 20 to the doctor's office. I called my mom (who lives in TN, like she'll be able to do anything but I guess I needed the moral support) and I'm crying and telling her what happened. By this time Brennan is in the car screaming crying and I feel so bad. I asked my mom if I should call the police so she looked up the number for me. I call the police station and I get transferred. The phone rings and rings and rings. So I hang up and call back, the lady tells me not to hang up. The phone rang at least 30 times so I hung up again and called back. This time she explains to me that she has been transferring me to 911 but it puts me in the back of the line (behind all the real emergencies) and that I should not hang up. Finally someone answers and I tell them what happened. She said they would send someone right away. Not two minutes later I hear sirens but I didn't think it was for me, it had to be a coincidence. But no, here comes the firetruck with sirens blazing. That humiliated me even more than I already was. The firemen were able to get in the car in about 5 minutes and as soon as the door opened I started crying again and hugged my baby girl. So not only did she have to have 3 shots she got locked in my car for 30 minutes (and I failed to mention it was lunchtime). I hope I haven't scarred her for the rest of her life. We left, went through the drive-thru for some food and had to go straight to Ethan's school to pick him up. I kept thinking the entire time that she was locked in the car that I was going to be late picking Ethan up and then he would be at school crying and wondering where I was at. It was a day I hope to never have to re-live.
